In line with the goal of providing a wholesome education experience, Singapore Polytechnic encourages students to take part in overseas programmes. This not only develop students' cultural awareness and international outlook, but hone life skills such as adapting to a new environment, while learning from overseas professionals.
Learning The ropes beyond Singapore
The internship programme allows students to be a part of overseas corporations, engaging them globally in respective fields and equipping them with essential job experiences.
"The experience at the Universal Studios in Orlando really broadens my perspective of the tourism industry," said Chen Tianyi, a student from the Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management, who joined Universal Studios in Singapore shortly after his internship in United States.
"I hope with what I learnt in the US, I can have a better grasp of what a real theme park is like, and possibly bring the management skills back to Singapore," he added.
Muhammad Nasrul Bin Rahmat, another student who went for his internship in Xi'an China, finds that his most treasured memories are that of interacting with the locals there, embracing cultures he never imagined. Interestingly, he also had a chance to spend his fasting month and celebrated Hari Raya in China.
Once in a lifetime experience
Besides a skill-based curriculum, immersion programmes also allowed students to participate in overseas academic programmes.
Ethel Tan, a student from the Diploma in Chemical Process Technology, said, "Studying in Dalian Polytechnic University, China, not only made me more independent, but also gaining a deeper understanding of the intriguing history of Dalian. It was just work and fun all together."
